Embossed Aluminium Foil With Primer For Polyurethane Foam

The embossed aluminum foil with primer for polyurethane foam board/panel is a material that combines protection, decoration and functional enhancement. It is widely used in the outer packaging and decoration of polyurethane foam board. The composite board made of it is used in building insulation, industrial insulation and other fields to enhance the market competitiveness of the product while increasing its aesthetics and practicality.

Material composition and characteristics

  • Aluminum foil substrate

Usually 3003, 8011 and other alloy aluminum foils are used, with a thickness range of 0.06-0.20mm, and the state is O state (annealed state). It has good flexibility and elongation and is suitable for compression molding. The embossing process (such as orange peel pattern and diamond pattern) can increase the surface area, improve mechanical strength and anti-slip properties, and enhance the adhesion with polyurethane foam.

  • Primer coating

The primer is mostly made of epoxy resin or acrylic resin, which is evenly attached to the surface of the aluminum foil through a coating process (such as roller coating and curtain coating). Its main functions include:

– Adhesion enhancement: The active groups in the primer form chemical bonds with the surface of the aluminum foil and react with the isocyanate groups in the polyurethane foam to ensure a firm bond between the aluminum foil and the foam layer.

– Anti-corrosion protection: The epoxy resin primer has excellent corrosion resistance, which can prevent the insulation aluminum foil from oxidizing in a humid environment and extend its service life.

– Fireproof performance: Flame retardants are added to some primer formulas to make the composite material meet the building fire protection standards (such as B1 flame retardant).

  • Embossed design

Common embossing types include orange peel pattern, diamond pattern, etc. The surface of the orange peel pattern aluminum foil is concave and convex, which is suitable for scenes that require moisture-proof such as insulation pipes and cold storage; the diamond pattern has both anti-slip and decorative effects, and is often used in building materials such as color steel sandwich panels.

Application scenarios of embossed aluminium foil with primer for polyurethane foam:

– Building insulation field

This material is mainly used for the veneer of polyurethane foam boards to form composite insulation boards, which are suitable for scenes such as walls, roofs, and cold storage. Its advantages include:

High-efficiency heat insulation: The high reflectivity of aluminum foil (≥95%) can effectively block radiant heat, and combined with the low thermal conductivity of polyurethane foam (≤0.024W/(m・K)), it significantly improves the thermal insulation performance.

Moisture-proof and waterproof: The closed-cell structure of polyurethane foam and aluminum foil can prevent water vapor penetration, and the water absorption rate is usually less than 1%.

Fire retardant: Polyurethane foam with flame retardant added is combined with flame retardant primer to make the board reach the flame retardant level. When burning, a carbon deposit layer is formed on the surface to prevent the spread of fire.

– Industrial and cold chain applications

In the fields of chemical tanks, refrigerated trucks, etc., embossed aluminum foil with primer can provide:

Mechanical protection: The rigid structure of embossed aluminum foil can enhance the impact resistance of the foam board and adapt to the external force during transportation and installation.

Temperature resistance: Polyurethane foam can be used stably in the range of -50℃ to 150℃, and can withstand high temperatures of 250℃ for a short period of time, meeting the needs of industrial environments.

Combination of decoration and functionality

The surface texture of embossed aluminum foil can enhance the aesthetics while meeting specific functional requirements, such as sound insulation (increasing sound wave reflection through embossed structure).

Technical parameters and industry standards

  • Aluminum foil thickness: 0.06-0.20mm, common specifications are 0.08-0.12mm.
  • Primer performance: Adhesion ≥1.5MPa (pull-off test, GB/T 5210), salt spray resistance test (500 hours without rust).
  • Embossing depth: usually 0.03-0.1mm, adjusted according to the application.
  • Environmental certification: Some products have passed RoHS certification to ensure that the content of harmful substances such as lead and mercury meets EU standards.

Quality inspection

Adhesion test: The cross-cut method (GB/T 9286) or the pull-off method (GB/T 5210) is used to test the bonding strength between primer and aluminum foil, and aluminum foil and foam.

Appearance inspection: The embossing should be clear and crack-free, and the surface of the aluminum foil should not be scratched or the coating should not fall off.

Although the initial cost of embossed aluminum foil with primer is higher than that of ordinary aluminum foil, its comprehensive performance (such as service life and fire rating) can reduce long-term maintenance costs, especially in projects with strict requirements for fire and moisture resistance.

Embossed aluminum foil with primer for polyurethane foam board is a high-performance material. Through the physical protection of aluminum foil, the chemical bonding of primer and the structural enhancement of embossing, it realizes multiple functions such as thermal insulation, fire resistance and moisture resistance. When selecting a supplier, it is necessary to comprehensively consider product specifications, customization capabilities and certification qualifications to ensure that project needs are met. With the advancement of environmental protection requirements and technological innovation, the application prospects of this material in the construction and industrial fields will be broader.
